My ISP has announced that they are restricting access to newsgroups, and
will only allow access to Big 8 Newsgroups.

This means that alt newsgroups will be no longer available.

"As a Verizon Newsgroup service user, we wanted to let you know about
some important changes that we will soon be making to our Newsgroup
service.

On June 24, 2008, we will be modifying our Newsgroup offerings to only
offer groups in the Big-8 Newsgroup hierarchies, which are listed
below. The 0.verizon.* newsgroup hierarchy will also continue to be
available. Users will not be able to post or download from any other
newsgroups using our Newsgroup service.

there are many FREE news services that you can use most of which only
require you to register with them. For example http://news.datemas.de/
the problem with free services is that they don't have the same retention as
a service you pay for and they often don't include binaries.

I have discovered a pay service which has around 18 months retention and
binaries and is going to cost me around $10 for approx 10 years usage as you
purchase blocks of (unexpiring on a monthly basis) usage. There is no
monthly fee, the link is http://Usenet-News.net/?ref=45610

It is best that he doesn't post given his past behaviour re death threats
and revealing personal addresses plus continual copyright theft.

It is pretty dumb to make death threats and commit copyright theft on
something that is being archived for years and years...

Indeed - finally his ISP done something about it. The really sad thing
about it all was he was being `used` by one from West Lothian to further
his own bigoted agenda without putting his own account at risk - the
ultimate cowardice.

Better that Mr Kingfisher is not encouraged to come back, given his
history. I am personally quite happy about the situation. He had not
posted here for a year or so anyway.

There is always Google. I have never been used by anyone, and you
show yourself to be the control freak that you are. Taking over other
groups when you do not agree with posting restrictions or
instructions, or knowing you just for the hell of it.

I do not know you, and I don't see how you can know me. I don't see
where I indicated in my own postings you are being "used" whatever you
mean by that. Finally, if you can explain what you mean by "taking over"
I am sure that will amuse everyone here (all three of us) for a
microsecond or perhaps two. Otherwise, please don't bother.

which groups has he taken over? There is no evidence John has taken over any
groups he posts to so I won't be holding my breath waiting for a reply!!

Thanks Bryan, I think the posting was just the sort of bilious rubbish
we have come to expect from him. I scarcely have time to even
participate these days, let alone "take over".

no problem I am fascinated by Usenet and all the weird and wonderful people
that inhabit it. Kingfisher doesn't really understand how the whole thing
works but thinks he can make outrageous accusations and there is no way to
prove right from wrong. If he is suggesting you are taking over aaue then in
the last two years when there have been approx 60,000 postings you have made
approx 400 which is around 0.66% of the total (my news service retains two
years worth of posts)!! This is the most amazing take over in the history of
takeovers! It is ludicous to even talk about anyone wanting to take over
this newsgroup.

I haven't come across anyone else quite like him on Usenet and there is a
fascination to find out why he does what he does, he doesn't seem to be
interested in having a dialogue with anyone else which is very unusual.
Truly bizarre.

He collects police cap badges. I can imagine how he is regarded at his
local station!

He had a major backer in here who liked to supply the bullets but wasn't
prepared to fire them in case he got his hands dirty. A user of the feeble
minded and a total coward.
