NetJets Layoffs

NetJets laid off an undisclosed number of employees yesterday in at
least the Ohio offices.

The employees (some as long as seven years) arrived at work yesterday
and were called into meetings where they were told their positions no
longer existed, their benefits end on Friday (June 30th), given a
document outlining the terms of their 'voluntary resignation', and
given an hour to remove their personal property. Two I spoke to said
they were not even assisted removing their belongings, or provided with
boxes/carts or anything. Their access badges were taken, so it was a
one trip deal.

I've seen people fired for 'just cause' get better treatment than these
'voluntary resignees' received.

Perhaps with Warren Buffet's recent donation to the Gate's Foundation,
he has lost concern for his human resources. But then again, they are
voluntarily resigning, so it's not really a layoff, right?

The two I spoke with are not... As far as the company is involved. I
didn't point out before that these are not entry-level positions. They
are mid-management level professionals.

I heard two more pieces of information.

One of those released was recently promoted into the position within
the last month or so, and another was being recruited for a different
position in the company. When she was called in for the meeting she
thought it was to find out about that position. She asked about it
after the bombshell, and was told they decided the job wasn't right for
her.

Two years ago they relocated her paying all expenses, insisting she
start right away. To add insult to injury, the person who gave her the
bad news announced at a meeting less than a month ago that nobody would
be losing their jobs.

Both asked about job reassignments and were told there is nothing
available, but feel free to apply for any future openings. Nice.

The guys in charge sound like real scumbags. Unfortunately job security
does'nt exist here in the states, if they want you out they will find a way.

Hope the people affected can find jobs real soon. I have'nt flown NetJets
yet, now I have a reason not to.
