Two years after flyglobespan.com won a CAA licence to operate its own
airline, Tom Dalrymple believes his business has finally arrived on the
world stage, according to a media report. (5/22/2006)

“We are looking at places like the Red Sea, North Africa, West Africa, the
Caribbean and Mexico. New York, Boston, LA, Las Vegas and San Francisco all
spring to mind,” Dalrymple has been quoting as saying by The Herald. The
reported added that all these destinations are within the reach of the new
fleet from Scotland.

According to Scotsman.com, the budget airline will almost double in size in
the next year, after unveiling plans for a huge new fleet of aircraft. The
report added that the company is adding seven new aircraft to its existing
fleet of 12 planes. Included in the new additions are four large long-haul
airliners capable of serving new destinations in areas such as North
America, Africa and the Caribbean.

Dalrymple reportedly said: “We would like to be recognised as Scotland’s
national airline. Our drive is to develop a network to match that
aspiration.”

As per the information available, earlier this year, Flyglobespan announced
a “stellar performance, recording 50 percent rises in both profits and
passenger numbers”. The carrier’s contribution to the profits of the wider
Globespan Group rose to £3.1m from £2m in the 12 months to October 31 last
year, while passenger numbers increased by 50 percent to almost 1.5 million.
Turnover at the airline rose to £163m.

Good post Kingfisher, do Globespan fly from HUY then? Here's a quote
from the man himself -

"The reality is that for two-thirds of the population of Scotland, it
is easier to
fly from Glasgow."

More repeated nonsense from ace troll David Jaffray..here's the FACTS

The Regional Airports Review looked at access to each airport expressed
as population against travel times.

The RASCO figures showed:
1-hour access time by road:
To Edinburgh Airport : 2,536m or 50.1% of the Scottish population
To Glasgow Airport : 1,982m or 39.2% of the Scottish population
To Prestwick Airport : 1,401m or 27.7% of the Scottish population
2-hour access by road:
To Edinburgh Airport : 4,01m or 79.2% of the Scottish population
To Glasgow Airport : 3,756m or 74.2% of the Scottish population
To Prestwick Airport : 3,407m or 67.3% of the Scottish population

Looks like this 'Scotland' will in fact be EDI taking into account the
proposed
railway link at the airport that will offer access UK/Scotland wide.
