Two years after flyglobespan.com won a CAA licence to operate its own
airline, Tom Dalrymple believes his business has finally arrived on the
world stage, according to a media report. (5/22/2006)
We are looking at places like the Red Sea, North Africa, West Africa, the
Caribbean and Mexico. New York, Boston, LA, Las Vegas and San Francisco all
spring to mind, Dalrymple has been quoting as saying by The Herald. The
reported added that all these destinations are within the reach of the new
fleet from Scotland.
According to Scotsman.com, the budget airline will almost double in size in
the next year, after unveiling plans for a huge new fleet of aircraft. The
report added that the company is adding seven new aircraft to its existing
fleet of 12 planes. Included in the new additions are four large long-haul
airliners capable of serving new destinations in areas such as North
America, Africa and the Caribbean.
Dalrymple reportedly said: We would like to be recognised as Scotlands
national airline. Our drive is to develop a network to match that
aspiration.
As per the information available, earlier this year, Flyglobespan announced
a stellar performance, recording 50 percent rises in both profits and
passenger numbers. The carriers contribution to the profits of the wider
Globespan Group rose to £3.1m from £2m in the 12 months to October 31 last
year, while passenger numbers increased by 50 percent to almost 1.5 million.
Turnover at the airline rose to £163m.
