Yes indeed, ABZ very much BAA's star performer north of the border last
month. Most of the growth coming from domestic services, but hopefully
Globespan expansion next year will boost international figures too. A
shame ABZ hasn't yet been able to do a deal with Ryanair or Easy Jet on
more international flights.

Not especially. I vaguely understand what's going on at the airport
(extended opening hours and a plan to extend the runway and terminal),
and I've been to the city on business a few times, but I wouldn't call
myself an expert :-)

Thanks. Off to a wedding at the Marcliffe Hotel soon. I am curious to find
out details of the bar tariff :-)

It easy to work out why Aberdeen has had so much growth. The Oil
business is absolutely booming at the moment. Most companies, including
ours, can't get enough experienced people.
And it's not just the North sea, where there is a severe lack of
helicopters, a lot of people are travelling from Aberdeen to locations
all around the world. Angola and Nigeria are big growth areas.

Oh, Jim, I've been to the Marcliffe on a few occasions, company used to
have their annual diner dance there. Luckily the bar was free, but I
vaguely remember drinking in the resident's bar and getting humped
for a big round.

Anyway you should try and stay over, spend two nights if you can, that
way you don't have to get up to early. Rooms are reasonable cost for
where you are staying. Has a good pool etc.

Mike

PS Just managed to get two weekend camping tickets for T in the park
2007.
I'm going to sell them to the weans for at least twice face value.!!

If only I had taken up my father's offer to pay for me to do my RGIT all
those years ago :-(

I can imagine. £14.50 for steak-pie in the restaurant implies £4 a pint at
the bar!

Sadly staying at the Treetops. Recent reviews are not good. Marcliffe was
full due to the wedding. I don't suppose there are any decent pubs withing
walking distance of the Treetops?

Treetops should be Ok. Never stayed there though.
Its about 2 Km to the Marcliffe from there.
Don't know any bars that far out of town. Just go into Union Street,
have a wander around. I'm sure you'll find a few.

I am very familiar with Aberdeen city centre ;-) I was hoping for some wee
nice local pub (that isn't the bar in Treetops).

Thanks for the information Mike.

Much appreciated.

Hi
Well maybe they are not willing to give into the demands that Ryanair
might be making. After all they are not known for their tact in
dealing with airport operators and want everything for free.

I still think that GSM will be the best bet for Aberdeen, its a good
home grown market and could easily attract folk from as far south as
Dundee as well who will then have an excellent choice of airports.

regards

Much the same as Easy Jet I imagine, who certainly haven't held back on
their opinion of BAA Scotland.

Yes, I think there is real growth potential for Globespan at Aberdeen.
Hopefully TFS is just the start.

Clearly easyJet are willing to pay much higher landing fees than Ryanair
ever have been.

I suppose the test will be if EZY continue to expand in Scotland, or
whether they simply leave the market to GSM, who seem to be much more
interested, and more willing to compromise with BAA Scotland.
Admittedly Ryanair are the least receptive, but they have an excellent
deal at Prestwick.
